Love is all a-round!

… A big round Sphere that is!

Despite the chilly temperatures outside, we at SphereMania Barcelona wanted to show all the SphereManiacs out there (past, present and future) just how much we love you by spreading a little Valentine’s Day warmth in the form of an extra special offer: 1 roll for 2 people (who love each other very much) for just 30€!

It’s true that we had great plans to start the 2012 Sphereing season at the beginning of February. However, thanks to the Siberian cold snap that has extended its icy fingers across Europe this month the Sphere is still in hibernation. We hope that Jack Frost will return to the North Pole before this week is over so that we can get the ball rolling again by the weekend.

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!

Winter in the Parc del Fòrum

You may think that during the shorter, colder, darker days of winter, it’s better to stay indoors all cosy and warm. Barcelona does get a little chilly during the winter months, but that doesn’t mean that the sun never shines. In fact, I’m pretty sure that today is the first “rainy” day we’ve had since the middle of November!

So, if you’re prepared to venture out and you’re looking for something to do in this amazing city, why not make the most of a clear, dry day and head to the Parc del Fòrum for a breath of fresh air?

The first half of November 2011 was wet and dull, but as soon as the sun put his hat back on the Fòrum came to life again with individuals, couples, families and groups of friends making the most of the park’s vast open spaces and fantastic sea views. Most people get around on wheels, be they attached to rollerblades, skateboards, bicycles or even Segways, but walking around is just as enjoyable and invigorating.

If you’re holidaying in the city, then you can rent bicycles and tandems from several rental shops, such as www.budgetbikes.eu or www.bikerentalbarcelona.com. Or, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous try a Segway tour.

For local residents, the sports shop Decathlon in the Port del Fòrum offers free rollerblading classes for all ages and abilities on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings.

SphereMania Barcelona may be closed for winter but the Bosc Urbà (Urban Forest) adventure centre, just opposite our Sphereing runway, is still open for business, and for those chillier, perhaps wetter afternoons, the Museu Blau Natural Sciences Museum is open daily.

One door closes, another opens

Yes, it’s sad. Christmas has once again been and gone in a whirlwind of food, fun and family. Accordingly, our amazing Christmas megadeal has also now drawn to a close. But never fear, we’ll be launching a January Sphereing special on the 15th of this month, so watch this space!

The plus side of Christmas being behind us is that it’s not long until the 2012 Sphereing season begins! We open up again for the new year on the 4th of Feb; we hope to see many new SphereManiacs as well as some familiar faces this year! See you at the top of the hill!

Merry Christmas from SphereMania Barcelona!

SphereMania Barcelona is now closed for the winter and Davide and I have just landed at Newcastle in the north east of England where we will be spending a chilly Christmas and New Year with family and friends. The site will open again for the 2012 season on Saturday 4th February 2012.

However, there is no rest for the wicked and Davide and I will still be answering emails and taking calls whilst on our jollies, and of course, sending out vouchers to those of you who are clever enough to make the most of our fantastic Christmas special offer: 1 roll Harness Sphereing for 2 people at half price (30€) or, even better, 2 rolls Harness Sphereing for 2 people for just 55€!! Don´t miss out! Offer ends 31st December 2011.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Facelift for the Sphereing ramp

If you’ve seen our launch ramp recently, you may have noticed it’s looking a little shabby and, well… boring! All white and no colour makes Jack a dull ramp. Over the next few weeks, when we’re not rolling we’ll be scraping, scrubbing, sanding and painting like a pair of loons. Yes, we did say weeks… it’s TOASTY in Barcelona this month and the ramp is four metres high… that’s a lot of square metres that need our attention!

We’re aiming for the look below. Any and all feedback welcome!

Heart FM's Nick Snaith Sphereing

Check out Heart FM’s Nick Snaith trying Sphereing for the first time! Please bear in mind that while Sphereing in Barcelona is a short, sharp shock to the system, it’s not as short as this audio version makes it seem – it’s been cut for radio!

Click here for Heart FM’s Sphereing Report!

For an even better idea of what Sphereing is like, have a ganders at our video reports and clients’ video uploads, over on our Facebook page.

Summer Sphereing Ahoy!

Long time, no posts! We humbly apologize. Yes, we’ve neglected our blog, and completely failed to let you know about all the awesome stuff happening in the Parc del Forum and beyond. In the last few months the Park has been host to the April Fair, Extreme Sports Festival, Primavera Sound Festival and more, with not a peep from us.

Last weekend spelled the last of the Park’s major events; we were pleased to collaborate with the Festa de la Bici (BIKEHSOW!), an extravaganza celebrating all things bike-based, loaning them the use of our ramp and hill for their dirt jumps competition… check out the video below to see some huge tricks with our mighty ramp in the background!

The good news for SphereManiacs is, with all these events behind us, the road is now clear for uninterrupted Sphereing action from now until winter!

New museum at the Parc del Forum

Last Sunday marked the opening of Barcelona’s Museu Blau, a brand new natural sciences museum at the Parc del Forum. The museum is housed in the Edifici Forum (Forum Building), the architectural centerpiece of the park, designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Previously home to a cultural exhibition showcasing Barcelona, this vast, blue triangle has long been viewed by many as an impressive but ultimately pointless structure. The multi-million Euro museum conversion breathes new life into both the building and into the park, and forms one of the four elements of the Natural Sciences Museum of Catalonia, distributed throughout Barcelona

Luckily for us, we were able to squeeze in a visit between our morning and afternoon Sphereing sessions, taking advantage of the temporary free entry. We oohed and aahed with everyone else at the giant beasties stalking around outside to promote the museum, which were sufficiently impressive to have a number of small children in tears.

The museum itself was well worth a visit, but we only really had time for a quick dash around the place this time. Their main collections include heaps of animals, fungi, minerals, fossils and more, all displayed to great effect – presumably much more so when you’re not busy elbowing your way through the opening-day hordes. There are lots of hands-on activities and interactive educational displays, with plenty to keep the little ones interested. So, if Sphereing, sunbathing or any of the Forum’s other offerings aren’t your cup of tea, there’s now yet another reason to visit the park, and the museum will undoubtedly form a great counterpoint to the Forum’s incredible upcoming Marine Zoo – more details on that when the project begins to take shape!
